Dean took more than 6 months to plan out this artwork and another 6 months to paint it throughout 2018-2019.  

The agonising thing for Dean was that he had a list of 100 Guitarists that he wanted to paint and slowly he had to cross off artists as he simply didn't have the space to paint them all in. He has talked about doing a sequel as there are so many respected guitarists that have helped pave the way in the music industry and deserve to be painted in recognition of their great contributions.

Dean's impeccable knowledge of the history in the music industry is evident here in his painting. No one has been painted next to the next person by chance. The positioning of each artist tells a story of their friendship/bonds and encounters with one another in the music world. For example, a guitarist and/or music enthusiast will see Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton arm in arm (top left of painting), knowing full well that they were on tour together and they flipped a coin to decide who would travel by plane and who would go by bus. It was that trip on the plane that would be Stevie's last as the plane unfortunately crashed.

There is so much history in this masterpiece.

The original artwork was painted on a 3m wide by 2m high canvas using black and white acrylic paint.

Dean scans the original painting on a commercial scanner to produce high quality canvas prints in smaller sizes, as reducing the size enhances the level of detail.
